Mother's day

Yesterday was a busy day. It was Mother's Day - we met my mom, grandma and family for a delicious lunch. Afterwards, my daughter and I grabbed a subway in the Bronx to head down to Central Park to join Judith, Susan, the Liberal Hawks and the Protest Warriors for the Not Now Not Ever rally against the Genocide in Darfur.

It was great to see everyone! But I had to leave early because my husband set up a reservation in Hoboken as my mother's day gift. As we were walking to the subway, my daughter, who is recovering from an operation to have 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed, felt tired. As a 15 year old, the experience of being tired was fairly new to her, and she did something that was also entirely new. She voluntarily rested all evening.

After our meal, I got a chance to read the New York Times, where I found some real contrasts to the Darfur rally. I don't really have the time to write a coherent post about the odd contrasts of that day, so above are a few quotes..
